Architecture is Frozen Music

Type in your facade or floor-plan dimensions and hear the building play. A harmonious set of proportions sounds pleasant; a dissonant one points to a spacing problem.

Any consistent unit (mm, m, ft). The smallest dimension becomes “1 unit”.

I have always been fascinated by the link between harmony in architecture and harmony in music. Goethe called architecture “frozen music”, and Renaissance architects like Palladio proportioned rooms with the same ratios that make a pleasing chord. Le Corbusier and Xenakis kept pulling on that same thread.

This app is a fun way to literally “play” your home, putting music to your design plans. Type in the dimensions along an external wall of your design and listen. When the proportions are in tune it sounds pleasant. When a note sounds off, it points to a spacing worth another look. Use it as a sketching companion, not a verdict: your eye and your ear should both have a say.
